Summary
Dru and all her friends at La Paloma High School remember the story of the two students who jumped the Nail ten years ago. Dropping from the top of the steep cliff, they fell 90 feet to the California water below. They didn't survive. Now, Dru is horrified when Scooter and his girlfriend, Elisa jump the Nail. Scooter has a reputation for doing crazy things. But Elisa is not so daring; she just follows Scooter. Though the jump is successful, Dru begins to see how deeply their feat has affected the emotionally fragile Elisa. Eve Bunting has written more than 140 books for children and young adults and has won many awards. Jumping the Nail was chosen as a New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age, and an ALA Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers. This tale of peer pressure and obsession takes on added impact through Julie Dretzin's dramatic narration
