Summary
Dick Cissel falls for stunning birdwatcher Anna, who co-leads Alcatraz Island's bird survey group. Avian-ignorant, Dick enlists lovelorn Jaye Turnstone, his co-worker and a long-time birder, to join the group as his Cyrano and help him win Anna's love. But when one group member dies mysteriously, romantic comedy becomes perilous danger on The Rock. As fellow journalists Jaye and Dick search for a birder gone wrong, Jaye gets an unwelcome reminder of a past murder, her best friend Rosie tumbles for Dick, and they all run afoul of a long-time criminal. Millions of visitors take ferries from San Francisco to Alcatraz Island to tour the prison and learn more about inmates like Al Capone and The Birdman of Alcatraz. Most don't know that Alcatraz is also a bird sanctuary, and that birdwatchers by the thousands flock there for a glimpse of the owls, cormorants and other species which nest and live on the prison's grounds. The Alcatraz Birder Murders features a diverse and colorful cast of characters, and Jan Stafford's knack for getting the scoop provides an inside look at the island's history, as well as an insider's view of the birds, people and the sights and sounds of San Francisco in the 1990s
