Summary
In "Treasure Island", an innkeeper's son, Jim Hawkins embarks on a sea adventure after obtaining a treasure map. Part adventure novel and coming of age story, Jim must negotiate relationships with a colorful cast of pirates, sea captains, noblemen and castaways in his quest to recover a share of the loot. Full of classic pirate language and imagery, Treasure Island's Long John Silver has become the iconic fortune-seeking buccaneer. Noted for its atmosphere, colorful characters and action, it has been widely adapted in film, television, theatre and radio. Originally serialized in 1881-1882 in the children's magazine Young Folks, the novel was first published in 1883
