Summary
Read Henry James' most Political Novel. 'Wherever you go, madam, it will matter little what you carry. You will always carry your goodness.' In The Bostonians by Henry James, a 19th century Boston woman named Olive Chancellor is committed to the suffrage movement. Olive convinces a young feminist named Verena to move in with her as preparation for Verena's career, but Olive's cousin, Basil, would prefer that the young woman become his wife rather than a political activist. The novel was adapted into a film by the Merchant Ivory team and provides a thought-provoking look at the role of women in society at the time
